Invasive clearing at a major New England botanic garden
The problem: Invasive vines and shrubs had taken over sloped woodland edges near the garden's collections. The ground was too steep for equipment, and herbicide close to the plantings wasn't acceptable.
What we did: We fenced the work area in sections and rotated the Brush Crew through with daily handler checks. The herd worked in view of visitors, who stopped to watch and ask questions.
The result: The understory opened up for the grounds team's follow-up work, with no chemicals and no machines on the slope. The goats also became one of the things people came to see.
